In an effort to enhance decision support service capabilities to address All-Hazards for emergency managers and decision makers, StormCenter Communications, Inc. has partnered with NASA, NOAA NWS, FEMA Region VI and the Texas Governor’s Division of Emergency Management (GDEM) to deliver valuable collaboration tools that integrate multiple data types from NASA and other agencies into operational environments to save lives and protect property
Extreme weather events are on the rise, climate change is impacting regions and nations around the world and geo-hazards such as volcanoes and earthquakes have had a tremendous impact on significant world populations, economy and psyche. StormCenter technology is addressing the great need to perform real-time visualization and collaboration sessions across multiple agencies and organizations in order to accelerate and crystalize situational awareness for enhanced decision making.
This important public/private partnership will significantly expand and enhance data visualization and collaboration capabilities that have been used in military and intelligence locations for years. StormCenter, however, is now delivering this capability on a much simpler and broader platform for rapid deployment and ease of use. The resulting capability enables enhanced decision-making processes between multiple federal agencies, state agencies, the media (when appropriate) and the public. Any subsector of which can also collaborate and benefit from the technology.
The Envirocast® Vision™ Collaboration Module (EVCM) was developed by StormCenter and enhanced with input from its partners to connect scientists and decision makers in real-time with real data using web services. With its simple interface, the EVCM software can be installed on any Windows® machine including Envirocast® Vision™ TouchTables (EVTTs), PCs and laptops that are connected via wireless networks. Critical datasets for weather analysis, situational awareness, location-based datasets, climate observations from satellites, model forecasts, storm surge forecasts, NOAA research models, aviation hazards, active volcanoes, NASA research satellite data and more can be shared with ease between emergency managers, government officials, decision makers, political leaders and even responders on the ground. A total picture of environmental and situational awareness is coming together for a multitude of applications for enhanced decision support services to be provided.
